There was never a gun, just the threat of harm. Shepard staff contacted the parents of both students, took statements from the students, and contacted authorities. Both students were placed in police custody. There was no interruption to the school day.

Shepard staff currently are reviewing school records of both students and will continue to work with their parents. Detectives took Braasch into custody in the afternoon, charging him with disorderly conduct, which is a class 4 felony. According to Byrne, Braasch was a student with some academic problems, but he did not raise any red flags. Braasch and the year-old student had allegedly been bickering since last spring.

ABC News could not reach Braasch for comment.
