I felt so elated and very privileged to be one of the distinguished Nigerians to be so honoured. How would you describe your personality? Chioma is a very humble young lady and she is someone who fears God a lot. She is also very straightforward. In what ways have you been able to give back to the sports that contributed to your success story?

I can say proudly that I am the first Nigerian that ever had a mini games village of my own without any organisation helping me out. Any moment from now, it would be launched. We have programmes lined up and very soon, people will see what we are doing. While in active sports, how were you able to create a work-life balance as an athlete, a police officer, wife and mother?
In terms of being a wife and mother, other people have been able to cope with the demands that come with it and I felt that I should be able to do same. I should add that my husband was very supportive, although I was not married while I was an athlete. I tried to combine football with track and field but it was a very tough thing to do-I could have been injured, so I decided to leave football and face athletics squarely.
Who are those who have influenced your career over the years? Like I tell people, Mary Onyali-Omagbemi is my role model because she was the one that motivated me.

Are you still in touch with some athletes from your generation? Of course, I am. She opted to train as an automobile mechanic instead, but abandoned the idea following her mother's disapproval.
